Cheers, Porto!
Trying Porto in Porto!! We went on a cellar cave tour at the CALEM port wine lodge and learned about the process and development of this fascinating unique wine called porto...Oak barrells hold up to50,000 litres. After the tour we got a tasting of a few CALEM ports. Sweet and giddy! Definitely a sipper wine.

All the port wine lodges are across the Douro River from Porto in Villa nova de Gaia. This town is just about the same as it was when the whole porto wine movement was getting started. Some of the buildings still standing were built in 1400. The wine is actually growing up the Douro river on terraces of schist stone to keep the proper temperatures during night and day.
Thank you to friends at CHOMP for a gift that we used for a wonderful time in Porto including a hotel, awesome authentic classy Portuguese dinner at Uma Rosa with a real piano player and a bottle of Touriga Nacional wine called Quinta de Cabriz, highly recommended.

A day on the town......sunny but chilly! muito frio! brrrrrr.
